While most Indian actors preferred to wear western outfits IIFA’s International celebrity guest, singer Peter Andre who was invited to perform at the IIFA Awards, opted to go traditional with a ‘Manav Gangwani’ sherwani.
”I wanted to wear something Indian for the ceremony. I hope I entertained you all..”
Manav Gangwani is one of India’s young innovative and promising fashion designers.
Peter Andre looked like a handsome bollywood star, cutting a smart figure in the creme coloured Indian designer suit which contrasted against his tanned skin and dark features.
The singer wore an exquisitely designed creme sherwani complete with traditional Indian jooties (slippers) emulating the look as it was worn by Bollywood actor and model, Rahul Khanna on the runway last year at the India Couture Week.
The overall look of the sherwani is very masculine and can be worn at any occasion like weddings, parties and religious functions reflecting an Indian touch.
His exotic dark features come from a Greek Cypriot background. As a child Peter was raised in Australia and aspired to be a performer. His talent was discovered by Australia’s music guru Molly Meldrum after seeing him perform like ‘Bobby Brown’ on a national talent TV show.
In 1993, “Gimme Little Sign” picked up an Australian (ARIA) music award as the highest selling single of the year.
Peter Andre was invited to sing two songs during the IIFA Awards ceremony from his new album as well as his international hit ’Mysterious Girl’.
He was accompanied by the Indian beauty Sophie Choudhary at the IIFA awards green carpet ceremony, who turned heads with a tight fitting shimmery pink number accessorised with a silver clutch.
Peter Andre recently separated from his English glamour model wife and businesswoman Katie Price a.k.a Jordan.
”I know looking at my pictures with Sophie Chaudhary at the red (green) carpet at the recent award function, people jumped to the conclusion that I was dating her. But it is not true. I was honoured to be in her company. But I hardly know her at all, Andre was quoted as saying in a press release.”
